Sworn translation (also known as certified translation) is still unknown for most clients, therefore let’s resolve some questions.

WHAT IS A SWORN (CERTIFIED) TRANSLATOR – INTERPRETER?

In Spain, a sworn translator or interpreter is appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is entitled to attest the truthfulness and accuracy of translations.

WHY THE SWORN TRANSLATION CAN NOT BE DELIVERED BY E-MAIL?

Even if you can send the scanned originals by e-mail, the sworn or certified translation must be delivered in hardcopy, it is sealed and signed by the sworn translator and it shall include a copy of the original (which shall be also signed, sealed and dated) and the legend or the translator’s oath.

WHEN ARE SWORN TRANSLATIONS REQUIRED?

Many official bodies, both national and international, may request a translation to be certified and sealed by a sworn translator who shall attest that the document is a true and accurate translation of a document written in another language. Although this kind of translation is also asked by some particulars or companies to know and certify the content of a document for another purposes.

WHAT DOCUMENTS REQUIRE A SWORN TRANSLATION?

Sworn translations are mandatory for all official procedures, the most frequent are:

Birth certificate, marriage certificate, death certificate, family record book.

Divorce judgement

Academic certificate, University degree

Criminal record certificate

Medical certificates

Mortgages and real property

Powers of attorney

Judicial proceedings, Judgements, Court notifications

Minutes of Shareholders’ Meeting, Articles of Incorporation, Company by-laws, Contracts, Deeds.

IS IT REQUIRED TO BRING THE ORIGINALS TO THE OFFICE?

No, it is not required. You can send them scanned by e-mail clear enough to be read and you will receive your free quote immediately. If you agree, we translate from the document received and a copy thereof shall be included together with the sworn translation.
